Open Mash Tun Springbank Distillery
1 full mash cycle takes roughly 10 hours - during the mash process, sugars are extracted from the grist, resulting in a sugary water (Wort), 3.5 tonnes per batch. The mash cycle comprises 4 'waters' - 1st water 17,000 litres at 63.5 deg C, 2nd water 6,000 litres at 72 deg C, 3rd water 15,000 litres at 82 deg C, and 4th water 6,000 litres also at 82 deg C.
